PHILICIA SAUNDERS

Born in Los Angeles, Philicia began her career as a young actress on the sage in elementary school. During high school at the Archer School for Girls, she joined the Speech Team and competed in the Dramatic Interpretation category excelling and inning competitive. Her dramatic interpretation of Charlayne Woodard’s “Pretty Fire” earned her many accolades including membership to the National Forensic Honor Society.

Over the past few years she has appeared on stage in “Troy: past and Present.” “Boris Godunov.” “The Old Ship of Zion,” “That’s Blood,” and “We Wear the Mask.” A 2010 graduate of Princeton University, she will attend UCLA School of Theater in the MFA program in acting. Her senior thesis performance at Princeton, “Fires in the Mirror” by Anna Deavere Smith gave Philicia the opportunity of a lifetime. In this “one woman show,” she performed 25 characters/monologues and 8 different dialects – they challenged her as an actor and allowed her to explore, connect, and grow as a human being.

Philicia Shamira Saunders feels honored to receive the League of Allied Arts Scholarship and wants to thank The League and it’s patrons for their continue support of the artists and the arts.
